International Congress on Municipal Cooperation and Peace Tourism in San Cristóbal de La Laguna (Tenerife): Results and New Partnerships

On March 18–19, 2026, in the city of San Cristóbal de La Laguna (Tenerife, Spain), the International Congress on Municipal Cooperation and Peace Tourism took place, organized with the support of the CIT Nordeste Tenerife Association, the NGO “Dobrobat,” and the NGO “International Partnership Foundation ‘Friends of Ukraine’.”

The event brought together representatives of more than 20 communities from the Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, Kirovohrad, Chernihiv, Khmelnytskyi, Mykolaiv, Ternopil, and Lviv regions of Ukraine, alongside municipalities of the island of Tenerife.

A key outcome of the Congress was the signing of a number of cooperation agreements between Ukrainian communities and municipalities of Tenerife:

  • Municipality of San Cristóbal de La Laguna — Vasylkiv City Council
  • Municipality of El Sauzal — Obroshyne Rural Council
  • Municipality of La Orotava — Novomyrhorod City Council
  • Municipality of Tegueste — Novobuzka City Council
  • Municipality of Tacoronte — Pisochyn Settlement Council
  • Municipality of La Matanza de Acentejo — Smoline Settlement Council
  • Municipality of La Victoria de Acentejo — Zlatopil City Council
  • Municipality of Güímar — Oliivka Rural Council

In addition, a cooperation agreement was signed between “BPW Canarias” and the Union of Women of Chernihiv Region, aimed at supporting joint initiatives and strengthening international cooperation.

The Congress continued the agreements reached during FITUR 2026 and confirmed the readiness of Ukrainian communities to actively engage in international cooperation.

This is another important step toward strengthening municipal diplomacy, building sustainable partnerships, and creating new opportunities for the development of Ukrainian communities.
