Ukrainian Communities and Rapino: A New Stage of International Partnership

Partnership

The dialogue between Ukrainian communities and the Municipality of Rapino, initiated during URC 2026 in Gdańsk, has moved forward with concrete steps.

On 8 August, a delegation from the Rivne and Kharkiv regions visited the Municipality of Rapino in Italy. As part of the events marking Immigrant Day, the heads of the Sarny and Balakliia urban territorial communities signed official partnership agreements with the Municipality of Rapino.

The event holds special symbolic significance for the Italian community. Seventy years ago, Rapino commemorated its residents who had lost their lives far from home. Today, the municipality is opening its doors to Ukrainians who have been forced to leave their homes because of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine.

Today, nearly 400,000 Ukrainians reside in Italy, and Rapino is among the municipalities demonstrating solidarity with Ukraine and providing support to Ukrainians.

The signing of the agreements marks another important step in the development of Ukrainian-Italian intermunicipal cooperation and lays the foundation for joint initiatives, the exchange of experience, and the further strengthening of partnerships between the communities.

We sincerely thank our Italian partners for their solidarity, support for Ukraine, and commitment to developing long-term cooperation with Ukrainian communities.
